Kiosk
Sixty-Nine
LP (2006, Art School Dropout)
Related: Kiosk.
Sixty-Nine only takes Kiosk thirteen minutes. For a young band that is really efficient. As cymbals (and systems) crash, singer Cat Food sings “Oh-Oh-Ah-Oh” with a proud mixture of temptation and disgust. She’s probably just out of her teens, but sounds 32 going on 58 – pretty potent stuff. A. Bones works the guitar like Silly Puddy. Her repetitive guitar licks and basslines pop pills of rubbery rhythm. Jack All, a shorts person, drives the drums, producing a clattering thrilling pulse. The live tunes act kind of harsh on my buzz, but they have a point. Kiosk basically grew up in public, on a stage, in a club, fumbling their way to glory. And given the strength/giddy fury of the three, new recordings – ‘Fuck Dudes’ ‘Murder’ and ‘I’m Floored’ – they are graduating to some seriously hot rock.
