Princess One Point Five
Turnaround Or Thereabouts

Why Sarah-Jane Wentzki chose ‘Turnaround…’ as the lead single from The Truth is a little perplexing. It represents the “happier” feel aimed for on Princess One Point Five’s superb second album, but fails to highlight the talents of either singer or backing band with subtle strumming and coos. Instead, the standout on this disc is haunting non-album track ‘Beautiful Day’. Recorded last year in a Melbourne tertiary studio, it follows a well-worn tale of infidelity and relationship breakdown without employing cliché. “What a beautiful day,” Wentzki introduces the song, before revealing the rest of the line: “It will be, the day we can let go.” Shit-coloured string instruments rise and scrape out their tunes only to be drowned in brittle guitar noise. “The thing about coming clean,” she confesses, “is there’s a fine, fine line between what’s right and…” — the expected word fades away, lost in the depths of sound. It’s a perfectly miserable inverse to the title track.
