The Truth

Princess One Point Five
The Truth

12 Track, LP (2006, Pharmacy Records)

Sarah-Jane Wentzki, the princess behind Princess One Point Five, has always kept good company. Her backing band for second album The Truth continues to boast a wealth of talented performers, including Richard Andrew of Registered Nurse, guitarist Alex Jarvis and Because Of Ghosts’ rhythm section Jacob Pearce and Dom Stanton. They never overshadow Wentzki though, whose remarkable vocals dominate the sound. The Truth comes close on the heels of the P1.5’s debut At Long Last, which took out the Noise/Qantas SOYA award and thus funded more studio time. It’s an inviting listen that builds on her proven skill for cinematic atmospheres with a warmer sound and greater variety of styles. ‘Oh So Cold’ soars and crashes, ‘Winning On A Mere Technicality’ recalls the trip-hop of Portishead and ‘The Truth’ even goes for a drum-heavy jazz bop. With a consistently gorgeous repertoire, national live-to-airs and more projects underway, Princess One Point Five is becoming the voice of Melbourne’s avant-pop scene.
