Seems like Midnight Juggernauts have realised they can only trade in cosmic synth gimmickry for so long. A trip back to the future, ‘This New Technology’ ironically sounds like the trio breaking free through some fairly old-school technique. Church organ, garage drums and assorted psych blandishment make for a single that’s genuinely gripping.
Whereas Dystopia languished under bloated sci-fi bombast and CBF lyricism, the only speckles of space opera here peep out from under a blanket of dirty, busy rock and still-superficial but now colourful vocals, all propelled by the glorious chink of raw percussion. Far less cynical, far more enthusiastic, ‘This New Technology’ has its feet earthed as much as its head is in the milky way; scaled by a band with a renewed sense of creativity.

Yeah, it's cool. Not as dancefloor friendly as 'Shadows' or 'Recovery'. Rad track though.
Well that's fucking shithouse.
Why, pray tell?

Subjective responses are not self-evident.
There was nothing subjective about it.
im with king_rap.
and maybe CBF should stand for Clearly Boring Fuckhead or Cock Balls Fanny because the lyrics are almost as bad as Katy Perry
Lyrics have never been the Juggernauts' strong point, but their music doesn't lend itself to deep analysis
Deep Anal at least.
this computer doesnt have speakers
I bet it does but refused to play it
true, but I never want to hear either ever again
not giorgio enough
We can all agree it's an improvement on Dystopia?
tell it like it is king rat
I'm not that into it. I liked it when they tried to hide the vocals as much as possible.
was shadows on dystopia? cos that song ruled much harder than this.
it is an elvis costelloish type vocals with the organ also ...
It's taken me a few listens, but I'm starting to get into it. The vocals aren't the strongest, but I like the organ sound. And Stricker's a great drummer.
I quite like the mutant Northern Soul beat of the drums. There's something a bit mid-80s sounding about the song. I'm reminded of The Waterboys and The Stranglers somehow, if they were coming from a mangled tape left in the car stereo all summer.
In other words - thumbs up!
Frankie's review has made me want to listen to it now!
