The story goes that Seekae and Ghoul had plans to release a split 7” featuring remixes of each other’s songs. The project fell through, however, so Ghoul decided to just remix ‘Swimming Pool’, the undoubted highlight of their debut EP A Mouthful of Gold, making it available for free via their MySpace page.

This version (created with help from the mysteriously monikered DJ SURPRIZ 4N4L) chops up Ivan Vizintin’s soulful vocals and scatters them across a reconfigured version of the original track’s spiralling melody and sputtering, Matmos-esque digital percussion. The range of sounds on the remix is very much in keeping with the tone of the original, although their approach to the track’s construction shows a new side of Ghoul entirely.

While we hold our collective breath in anticipation of Ghoul’s forthcoming full-length, this remix does an excellent job of subverting and confusing our expectations of the group.
