Essendon Airport - Palimpsest

Comment I Made about 4 months ago

yeah, it's a wonderful re-issue: remastered well and with terrific liner notes. chapter seems to be one of a kind - a label that lovingly releases great music of the present and the past. may guy continue to reign.

in comparison, the reel's quasimodo's dream has just been re-released - can't quibble about the excellent remastering or even the quality of the cover (it replicates the original vinyl fold out) but the one page liner notes by bernard zuel just don't go deep enough to describe a band as experimental in their own way as essendon airport.

Is There A Future For Music Retail? Pt 1

JB bought a huge amount of experimental music from the label i'm with a while back and farmed cds out across the country. yes, they're mainstream but they do try to stock interesting stuff as well.

tatsuya & fuji - accomplished mix of improv and composed section; great musicians palestine & ambarchi - fantastic denley & xnobbqx - only occasionally interesting noetinger - was told to get off the stairs so gave up halvorson et al - terrible blank realm - nice change but awkward mostly berne, pateras, thompson - standard eu post-jazz; heard it a nundred times before shabara & suryadi - terrific matt mitchell - looked lost fast et al - sounded as expected but didn't quite gel conrad & abrahams - terrific for a while then they overstayed their welcome

great venue, fairly poor organisation. melb is great. stuck here with ash cloud.
