i'm recording a demo of something for a friend to listen to. i recorded it on one of those zoom stand alone recording desks and now its in my computer as a wav file.

there seems to be a lot of frequencies which are making it hard to listen to, ie its hurting my ears. usually i mix/eq things in the zoom, but as luck would have it it died right after i recorded this track.

so i'm trying to use audacity to make it listenable. i notice there is a compression tool, with threshold (default -12db), ratio (default 2:1) and attack time (default 0.2 secs) settings.

does anyone have any general advice on how i could use compression to make this thing a bit more listenable? its a bit ''subbey'' sounding and some of the higer frequencies are too piercing. thankyou!
