Having not been quite as present on the M+N forums as I used to be, I was totally shocked and stunned to get an email about Adam's passing away this morning.

He was a sweet and gentle dude with his enthusiasm for music and passionate dislikes the best thing about him. I remember many years ago when the issue of the Wire that featured Electrelane on the cover was stocked in the S&F shop and we were both ratting on them and their music and then a year ago, that memory had me thinking that I should let Adam know that I had come around to their brand of metronomic grrl rock. Sheepishly, I never did though he might have guessed that already from my release schedule.

I owe Adam a whole lot for being able to talk to him about new music and the label when he was running the shop as it was his amazing industry and ideas behind his releases that encouraged me to work on hellosQuare and develop it a lot more then I would have as a poorly student. I am totally saddened for not being able to say to Adam thankyou for making me feel like it was worth doing what I'm doing.

We used to slip in and out of contact fairly regularly as was the norm with us I think but always when I was hoping he would respond to a particular email, he would or when I was thinking how he and his partner were doing, I would hear from him with a little update on his life. He will always have a special place in my heart and my memory as he played a part in couple of important times in my life and I won't ever forget our nerd-like conversations about music, old or new.

He was a trusty comrade and a caring soul. He was a good dude.

man...how can she do bulli and not canberra...oh well.

alasdair was on fire tonight - great storytelling and guitar playing! make sure you catch him in sydney and melbourne this week.

for anyone looking for a nice evening of music on a monday night:

anyone heard the new young jazz rebels by madlib? not sure if that counts as hip-hop but great rolling spiritual free jazz vibes all over it. also, what do people think of that oz mc ivens? i've not heard his stuff but i hear it's kinda on the same wavelength as dalek and noticed he's doing stuff with that noise outfit occult blood etc etc. any more info would help!

For anyone in Canberra, Alasdair will be playing at the Street Theatre foyer (not The Front Cafe & Gallery as mentioned on much of the promo) on Monday 3rd May and he will be supported by local dirge-folksters Voss. Starts 8pm, tixs $10 at the door!

i do really like the first new buffalo album but wasn't really so crash hot on the second one...
