''Gentrification imperils Fitzroy art institution''

I've never seen that logo before and I hope to never see it again! It looks like foreplay to rape, why do they think they should be entitled to publicly display something in such poor taste?

'exclusive' nightclubs in syd

Comment I Made about 8 months ago

I've probably been to most of them. I wouldn't call them exclusive by any means. The Ivy can be the 7th layer of hell, depending where you get stuck. The pool bar actually is surprisingly nice (fairy lights! and trees!), and I like that they stop letting people in at a certain time- keeps it bearable.

I noticed a ''secret'' room at Hugo's the other night, which greatly amused me. That place is full of trashbags, not classy at all.

OAF: ‘Our Entire Operation Is In Jeopardy’

Ah, the licence freeze! I don't think that should be relevant though- that prevents an extension of the liquor licence hours and the liquor licence should already permit day time trading, it is just the DA that needs changing.

But the police and City of Sydney are pretty rabidly anti-licensed premises at the moment, so I'm not surprised they are throwing everything at it that they can think of, even if technically legally incorrect.

It was a meeting of Council's planning committee, open to the public. It is not clear whether the committee will determine the DA, or just report to a full Council meeting. The next full Council meeting is next Monday 18 October, so it could be up for determination then.

99 submissions in support were received after the close of the submission period!

Here is the report, if you are interested.

Or just its conclusion:

CONCLUSION 28. The proposal seeks to change the use from an art gallery, art house cinema and special events, to including additional uses such as live entertainment and a nightclub between 11:00am and 6:00pm daily. 29. The proposal is not considered to be substantially the same development as that originally approved. Accordingly, the application cannot be determined under Section 96 of the Act. 30. Seven (7) objections were received regarding the proposal. The site adjoins a residential zone which contains residential uses to the rear. 31. Ninety nine (99) submissions in support were received after the notification period. 32. The application is recommended to be refused.

That would be whether it can be a modification application, or a new DA. It must be substantially the same development for a modification application. I know the planner who worked on this application, he's good, I'm sure he got it right.

They should take Council to the Land and Environment Court, and use me, I'm good too!

The real concern is that a development consent runs witht he land and not the specific user, so no matter how noble Gerber's plans are, if he sells the business and someone else moves in, it will be very hard to stop it from becoming a day club, if that is what the new owner wants to do.

Jack is starting to look really unhealthy, I'm worried about him. He was such a cute kid.

best new dance pop tunes...

I've been wondering about this too. I recently heard 'Empire State Of Mind' for the first time and was blown away by what a great song it is. What other gems am I missing by ignoring mainstream music?

Really? I remember somebody asking you to download that for them way back in December, and I think that you did!

Interest rates up

Comment I Made about 2 years ago

Is anybody else with St George? They only recently sent me a letter saying they would give me all 3 rate rises in one go, from Jan 2010 (this seems quite lax, waiting so long to hike up my rate, but I'm fine with that). But I just checked my account and they haven't taken out any extra money?

Also, at a meeting this morning with bankers they were predicting another rise of 0.5. Damn.

Violent venues

the level 2 restrictions are really not hard to comply with. It is the 2am lockout that everyone hated and that was so bad for business.

A media release was issued just today:

http://www.olgr.nsw.gov.au/media_releases.asp

The government must have access to the new BOCSAR data that hasn't been released yet. That list is pretty different, and a lot shorter than the most recent publicly available data.

The list has gone from 48 premises to 19 premises! And the exchange is off, YAY!
