There are two types of music these days: indie (music with guitars) and hip-hop (music without guitars). Therefore, metal is indie, just like the Rolling Stones, Elvis, &c.
How long can they hold onto the seized paintings before they have to either press charges or release them? Can they keep Henson in limbo until the affair is forgotten about and then quietly drop charges or give him a suspended sentence or somesuch? That may be an expedient way of pandering to the populist wowsers without making a martyr of him.
Perhaps Henson should leave Australia and move to Berlin or some place where people are less wowserish? Assuming that the DPP doesn't decide to make an example of him and jail him.
Post-Howard-era Australia seems to be a much more culturally conservative place than Whitlam-through-to-Keating-era Australia.
Do people do coke in Australia as much as in the UK/US? I thought that coke was prohibitively expensive there, leading to the local hipsters just smoking pot instead, and the local scene having a less sharky, more mellow vibe.
If the ABC piece is insufficiently moralistic and condemnatory, it could prompt a new round of accusations of left-liberal cultural-elite bias in the ABC.
I'm here.
I now use it far more than Facebook, partly because of the modularity and convenience. Facebook is a walled garden which requires you to visit a web page and log in. Twitter's an open web service; I can send messages to it from my phone or view it using a Java applet. Which comes in handy whilst not at a computer.
I was thinking of going to see them, but decided against it because Koko is a pretty awful venue for gigs. (Unless you stake out the front early on, you'll be stuck staring at the back of some geezer's neck, or in this case, some 6ft2 hipster's ironic afro.) I didn't get much out of the Stereolab and Cornelius gigs there.
Maybe next time they'll do a side show in Brighton or someplace. (The Concorde2 in Brighton's not a bad venue to see bands at; the gigs also end up smaller and more intimate than the London ones.)
At the end of an ancestry/HSMP visa, you're eligible for indefinite leave to remain (i.e., permanent residency). A year after that, you can apply for citizenship.
It'll take me until September 2012 to get British citizenship. Not sure if I'll stay that long.
Is Sunday any good? I can't make it on Friday or Saturday.
