STUTTER presents:
- WHITEHORSE
- PIVIXKI
- MAGDA MAYAS / TONY BUCK (DE/AU)
- MARCO FUSINATO
WHITEHORSE
Negative heaviness from the unholy beast. Nearly 8 years in Whitehorse have just recorded 3 split records that will tip the band's discography into the teens. These three recordings will be released in conjunction with their 3rd USA tour in May - July 2012, and also mark the first recorded material with Dan McKay (Nation Blue / King Cannon) on drums and Dave Coen (Ivens / Encircling Sea) providing electronics.
On February 16th Whitehorse will present new and old material with power.
PIVIXKI
Max Kohane: Drums
Anthony Pateras: Piano/Electronics
The duo known as PIVIXKI are a unique combination of two distinct talents: two hard-working veterans of the Melbourne (and indeed international) music scene.
Multi-instrumentalist and keyboard player within the band, Anthony Pateras, has a CV big enough to fill three press releases. Working within the musical realms of modern composition, improvisation, electronics, avant-rock and noise, he’s composed for major orchestras, played with a multitude of notable collaborators, performed in everything from seedy dives to concert halls the world over, released his music on a multitude of labels, including two acclaimed CDs on John Zorn’s Tzadik imprint).
Max Kohane has been playing in bands since he was 12 and touring since he was 16. He’s infamous for his dynamic, intensely fast and technical drumming style and has earned a rep as perhaps the best skin-hitter in Australia’s hardcore punk scene. He’s played in the likes of Far Left Limit, George W. Bush, Terra Firma, Cut Sick, grind kings Agents Of Abhorrence and crust-punkers ABC Weapons. In that time, he’s managed to play shows in places as far flung as Macedonia, Japan, Indonesia and the U.S.
The beauty of PIVIXKI lies in the clash of these two musical cultures, though the willing experimentation of Pateras and Kohane has seen fit that there is no clash at all. PIVIXKI’s debut, Gravissima, recorded by U.S. expatriate Casey Rice, sees an amazing melding of sensibilities. Nominally a piano/drums duo, the band expands their sound with percussive flourishes and the addition of organ and electronic keyboards into the mix. Some of the songs are short, fast and cut to the point; others organically develop over several minutes like soundtrack pieces, occasionally feeding through the creepy, picturesque qualities of Italy’s horror-music legends Goblin, or the seething musical soundscapes of France’s avant-prog troupe, Magma – (label press)
MAGDA MAYAS / TONY BUCK (AU / DE)
Magda Mayas: Piano
Tony Buck: Drums
Magda Mayas is a pianist living in Berlin. Developing a vocabulary utilizing both the inside as well as the exterior parts of the piano, using preparations and objects, she explores textural, linear and fast moving sound collage. Alongside the piano, Mayas has recently been performing on a Clavinet/Pianet, an electric piano from the 60s with strings and metal chimes, where she engages with noise and more visceral sound material, equally extending the instrumental sound palette using extended techniques and devices. Magda Mayas has performed and toured in Europe, the USA, Australia and Lebanon with many leading figures in improvisation such as John Butcher, Peter Evans, Annette Krebs, Andrea Neumann, Axel Dörner, Johannes Bauer, Christoph Kurzmann, Thomas Lehn and Tristan Honsinger.
Born in Sydney in 1962, Tony Buck is regarded as one of Australia's most creative and adventurous exports, with vast experience across the globe. He has been involved in a highly diverse array of projects. Apart from the well-known and highly acclaimed The Necks, he is probably best known as leader of hardcore/improv band PERIL, with Otomo Yoshihide and Kato Hideki. Early in his musical life, after having graduated from the New South Wales Conservatorium of Music, he became very involved in the jazz scene in Australia, often touring with visiting international artists such as Vincent Herring, Clifford Jordan, Mickey Tucker, Branford Marsalis and Ernie Watts, as well as Australians Mark Simmonds, Paul Grabowsky, The catholics, Sandy Evans and Dale Barlow. Tony has played, toured or recorded with, among others, Jon Rose, Nicolas Collins, Tenko, John Zorn, Tom Cora, Phil Minton, Haino, Switchbox, The Machine for Making Sense, Ne Zhdall, The EX, Peter Brotzmann, Hans Reichel, The Little Red Spiders, Subrito Roy Chowdury, Clifford Jordan, Kletka Red, Han Bennink, Shelley Hirsch, Wayne Horvitz, Palinckx, and Ground Zero.
MARCO FUSINATO
Guitar/Electronics
‘…extends the traditional language of the guitar to distressed oblivion, compounding deracinated electronic detritus into over-amplified dreamweapons, unleashing tsunamis of ecstatic free noise’

TETRAS (CH)
Jason Kahn: drums
Jeroen Visser: organ, electronics
Christian Weber: contrabass
Tetras are an improvising trio based in Zurich, Switzerland. They take a long-form approach to their music, with live sets approaching one hour or more. The gradual structural development of their pieces blurs the sense of time passing, moving through various fields of improvisation which owe as much to rock (This Heat, Can), jazz (Sun Ra, electric-era Miles Davis), minimal music (Steve Reich) or drone (Phil Niblock).
In January their first release, the double LP “Pareidolia,” will appear on the Chicago Flingco Soundlabel.
Jason Kahn began playing music in Los Angeles during the early 1980's, initially releasing records on the SST label. During the 1990's he lived in Berlin, playing drums and percussion in many projects of improvised and electronic music. Since 2000 he has been living in Zurich.
Getting his start in the 1980's Amsterdam Ultra scene, Jeroen Visser has worked extensively as sound engineer with The Ex, Tom Cora and many more. He played with The Pale Nudes during the 1990's, and currently tours with ./morFrom/. and Trio Kazanchis, with Ethiopian singer and krar player Mesele Asmamaw.
Swiss bassist Christian Weber is involved in numerous projects, ranging from jazz and free improvisation to contemporary chamber music. He has collaborated with a wide spectrum of musicians, ranging from John Butcher to Otomo Yoshihide.
This tour has been made possible with the support of the Swiss Arts Council, Pro Helvetia.
JUSTICE YELDHAM (SYD) - LUCAS ABELA
''The most exciting performer I have seen in the last three years – in fact, since I first saw Iggy Pop'' - Bruce Russell - WIRE magazine.
What's been described as ''a trumpet player trapped in a two dimensional universe'' is in fact the unique work of Justice Yeldham, a maverick musician with an unhealthy obsession with sheets of broken glass. In his infamous show that has astonished and bemused countless people in over 40 countries, Yeldham ecstatically purses his lips against sheets of amplified glass whilst deftly employing various vocal techniques ranging from throat singing to raspberries, turning discarded shards into crude musical instruments. The results are a wild array of cacophonous noise that is strangely controlled and oddly musical. The instruments simple, original and effective premise is a welcome riposte to over complicated musical performances of modern times. A one of a kind act re-defining the expression 'don't try this at home' this show quite simply needs to be witnessed to be fully appreciated, let alone understood.
Justice Yeldham is the latest alter-ego of Australian sound performer Lucas Abela, whose past sonic experiments were conducted under monikers like A Kombi, Dj Smallcock, Peeled Hearts Paste and more recently his band Rice Corpse. Initially classed as an experimental turntablist, though his early work rarely resembled anything in the field. Early feats, saw him stab vinyl with Kruger style stylus gloves, bound on electro acoustic trampolines, drag race the popemobile across Sydney Harbour Bridge, perform deaf defying duet duels with amplified samurai swords, hospitalised by high powered turntables constructed from sewing machine motors, record chance John Peel sessions with the Flaming Lips, & be Otomo Yoshihides' favourite entry into his Ground Zero remix competition; 'Consummation' even though instead of sampling the CD he destroyed it using amplified skewers! Principally a live audio artist, performing professionally for the past 17 years, since Oren Ambarchi and Robbie Avenaim stumbled across one of his late night radio performances in 1994 and asked him to play their What is? Music Festival. He also founded of the irreverent dualpLOVER group of businesses (recording label, cd/dvd replicators, distributor and promoter of gigs and tours) and his now dabbling in sound installation.

CASEY MOIR
The Casey Moir Solo Project - ‘NAKED’ (AUS/SWE)
In her solo project entitled ‘NAKED’ Casey explores the extreme and the unconventional capabilities of the voice. Inspired by words, colours, poems, sounds, forms, ideas, and emotions, her improvisations take shape. ‘NAKED’ is an experience of raw expression with each improvisation being a journey through vocal sound art.
