melbourne broke midget...
indeed it did. along with our bass amp. well that was actually quantas the cunce
arrrggghhhh fricken typos! meant to say thanks to jono grand fatal/optionals etc for doing guest lead vocals on 'breeding ground'. midget karaoke... funny. well done.
I had a great time at midget last night, they played fucking great. I even bought the shirt and a 7''.
glad you enjoyed it outofphase. even with what i've written above in mind we still had a fun show
No clear vinyl boooo
sorry, we didn't even get given any even tho it was part of the deal with the pressing plant. but again i don't want to go into that on a public forum. we will make it up to those who wanted them somehow, and also make sure we make the missing artwork available to you. what a royal pain in the arse.
thanks for coming along
OK, let's file that one in the Doing it Fucken Tough file. I'm writing a post-gig wrap up for myself as much as anyone else. All the 'too long didn't read it folks' can do exactly that.
First of all it was great to see so many people at the Hoey last night. Thanks for supporting what was a pretty cool line-up (IMHO). What wasn't so cool was the fact that i'd destroyed my voice the night before in Melbourne (part gig wear, part too much afterparty; a huge lesson learned - i can't back up like i used to be able to do) and therefore spent the entire evening not allowing myself to speak to anyone (a hard task at yr own record launch) in a vain attempt at restoring something akin to a voice. Not that it really worked - more on that in a minute..
Supports were great - Oxmusic fukkin killed it - best new local band i've seen in a long while. Think Birthday Party/Scientists/Jesus Lizard style rhythm section but with killer songs, dynamics, great backing vocals, and frantic to delicate guitar work. Really awesome. And it was only their 3rd gig. Impressive stuff.
Golden Mean were tops as usual when they were actually playing - from the start they had tuning issues which resluted in a very fractured stop/start show etc. That aside I dug the new tunes though, and new drummer Rohan in Phill Collins mode was great and added a new flavour. Nice one.
SAUM were awesome too - kinda 'In Utero-esque' (i mean that in good way) but with complately different songs and a razor sharp wit thanks to Jon Chapple's... razor sharp wit! A great bunch of guys who actually really helped me out with some throat medicine too (thanks Chris if you read this).
And then on to Midget.... under the circumstances it was ok ie we actually played a set but FUCK ME it was frustrating and embarrassing not being able to sing properly (or at all in some parts) and it really let the entire performace down; my apologies. I tried throat medicine, not talking prior to the set, shots of Jager, tequila etc, which combined resulted in a scratchy voice at best, a weakened shriek at worst and (actually worst was no voice at all) and... drunkeness, although that I can deal with. Add the blood pouring from a cut on my finger from a misplaced strum and it was damaged rock at it's finest. But it wasn't meant to be.. Big thanks to Jono (Grand Fatal
So yeah, a night that i'll remember, but a frustrating one to say the least. Add to that the fact that our 7'' singles arrived literally a couple hours prior to our set at the Melb launch without the amazing artwork that was meant to be printed on the inner sleeves (they were meant to be ready weeks before but that's a whole other story that I can't talk about as it's still being 'discussed'........) and it's been quite the record launch tour.
Bands, those funny little plans...
Ok, I needed to write that. Peace
re lawnsmell CD it's definitely out and it's got shit-loads of stuff on it.
i was surprised how much they'd actually recorded
you guys used to play with them a fair bit - back when
actually we didn't play with them that much. things were hazy back then tho so... nah, maybe a few times. but we did exist in similar circles... feedback comes to mind.
they were friends and they knew i wasn't a fan. all cool.
think we've pissed off your neighbours already trace. kezza smashed a beer bottle on your steps and is currently covering the stairwell in blood.
thanks for letting us stay!
i'm out too. 2 hours sleep here i come.
or a flaccid one...!
without having any idea what yr actually refering to i'm going to go with a firm no!
