We just opened SXSW for registrations for the 2015 event yesterday and had 74 Australians buy in and get their hotels booked in the CBD within the first 24 hours. Quite a few major companies have registered multiple staff.

I thnik Kirin will come out the winner in the attention paid stakes. It's a strong lineup too. most with great management and agencies in place.

Agree on Dog Trumpet, I think Reg and co will do well there. Bernie Hayes is playing with them and Iain Shedden too.

Our latest press release on Southby. Great number of bands and talented artists.

Press Release For Immediate Release January 22, 2014

Largest Contingent of Australian Bands in the US At Any One Time In History 55 Australian Artists to play joined at SXSW by over 750 Registered Delegates

The world's largest and most prestigious music business event--South by Southwest Music Festival & Conferences (http://sxsw.com)--today confirmed that 55 Australian artists have confirmed contracts to perform at this year's showcases March 11-16 in Austin Texas. It's a record number of Australian homegrown talent at SXSW and the most Australian artists in the US at any one time in history. The list of all 55 bands is at the end of this email.

And there's more--six artists invited from a field of 80 are still to confirm or drop out--and there are also over 550 Music, Film and Interactive delegate registrants already paid and building every day, four major stand presences in the Trade Fair and several films for screening that will be revealed January 31.

What started as five Oz bands and 20 delegates in 2002 has mushroomed into its own brand at this combination of three creative content conferences and festivals that began 28 years ago in Austin. Despite recessions, currency fluctuations and rising travel costs, Australian have created their own music, film and interactive brands at SXSW through shrewd investment by AUSTRADE in the early years and Australia Council, State governments and peak industry bodies more recently.

As SXSW Australian, New Zealand and Hawaiian representative Phil Tripp states, ''We have so many bands because Australian music is performance-based live at the crash barriers, not cloned in auto-tune studio cubicles. Our film makers are world class and our interactive software and online entrepreneurs are in high demand overseas. SXSW has been the catalyst for this Australian Invasion of talent for over a decade of momentum and we're ready to explode in 2014.''

The competition for bands will be fierce with over 100 venues featuring up to 2000 artists from 55 countries who applied and were invited to play. There were more than 7500 applications to play globally and Australia had over 220.

SXSW Music attracts close to 15,000 registered delegates from the industry; SXSW Film close to 10,000 while SXSW Interactive is the epicentre for 30,000 attendees. Australian delegates are projected to exceed 750 compared to 658 last year.

SXSW Music Conferences feature over 500 speakers during the day in over 200 panels and keynotes which include P. Diddy, Blondie, George Clinton, NAS and many more to be announced.

OZ Bands Can Submit Early July 9 for SXSW

Comment I Made about 1 year ago

Been away a bit. Tenzenmen, I'm not aware of any Asian equivalents to SXSW. Suggest you check with Sounds Australia as they would know.

Mule it is a large investment and not to be taken lightly nor done too soon or when unprepared. It's not going to work for everybody but you're right in suggesting having PR and other advance strategies to get traction. Trick is to apply way in advance and get accepted early so you can do this. Funtimes, your friend with JJJ spins and many shows is doing really well in Australia. Maybe it's not the time for them to head overseas. Then again...

Finally, we just opened the doors for submissions today, the Sonicbids signup is
