Cynical takes on classic rock albums
Comment I Made 9 days ago
Disenfranchised alcoholic repackages the same two chords, one beat, and half a scale he's been releasing twice a year under different labels and pseudonyms for a decade to capitalise on sudden interest by young white teenagers.
Urban Blues - John Lee Hooker.
really distinctive bassists

That's a fair point. Replace him with John Entwistle.

My own bad self*
*post may be alcohol fuelled wildly egomaniacal posturing.
really distinctive guitarists

Obviously: John Lee Hooker. Jimi Hendrix. Buddy Guy. Greg Ginn for sure.
It pains me to say it, but you always know when Dave Mustaine takes a solo. For a metal nerd, he's got a pretty distinctive style. Maybe also Hanneman/King?
Rowland S Howard is arguably the most important guitarist Oz has ever produced.
Brendan Black of The Stabs.
Marc Ruggerio from Teeth and Tounge/Popolice/New Estate.
Also, Alan Secher-Jensen from Deep Where All Drown. I'd love to hear him play 'Mary had a little lamb'. He's a guitar player from Mars.
Great Debate #4: Horse Stories Vs Ocean Songs
Comment I Made 11 days ago
Horse Stories has the cover of ''I Remember A Time When Once You Used To Love Me'', so in my book, that wins.
But my personal faves are Sad & Dangerous, and the self-titled album. Every now and again a band comes along that redefine how music can be played. The Dirty Three are one of those bands.

The Third Man is superb. As is The Big Sleep and The Maltese Falcon.
The Killers.
Key Largo.
Angels with Dirty Faces.
The original Scarface.
Blood Simple.
LA Confidential.
Plus a whole shitload of old French movies, which I haven't seen enough of.
Good thread!
Nice acoustic indie folk

My last band Palomino might fit the bill. Possibly not 'nice' enough, though.
Courtney Barnett does good work. So does Alysia Manceau.

Trying hard to give a shit at this point.
Oh, that button stops the work flowing through to me does it? Hmm...
