the key is that Unless they somehow pull a switcheroo for Howard as well, now teams don't have to worry about 'getting through' the three 7-footers of LA. The Zombies ironed out their rotation with that Green trade - with Harden and Ibaka freed up - they're young and presumably better equipped to deal with the compressed season... i'd argue they're the team to get through in the West.

Dallas without Chandler won't be quite as formidable, Memphis lost Battier... Houston have Gasol, but not much else now... even with Cp3, you can't book LA into the finals just yet.

And yeah, Dirk isn't a centre - he only spends time at the 5 if they go small... which against miami doesn't really make too much sense. as they can easily match up with Udonis at the 5, Bron at the four, Miller at the 3, Wade at teh 2 and bibby/chalmers at the 1.

the matchups in this series really don't favour the mavs at all - the heat will have three of the best four players in the series... which doesn't entirely bode well for the mavs chances.

and even though the mavs have that eye-of-the-tiger look about them, the fact that all of the heat's offense comes from the wings - where the mavs really only have Matrix, Brewer (if he sees the floor) and Deshawn (who're all basically offensive non-factors, regardless of Marion's outbursts against the thunder - you can be sure the heat won't be planning specifically to 'stop' him) - it seems far more of a stretch for them to win than the heat.

I would love to see Dirk and Kidd (even Jet, Matrix and Peja, for that matter) get a ring, you've got to figure that the Heat have got the upperhand, and it's more their series to lose. I don't doubt the Mavs *could * win - it's just that it's going to be a bit harder for them to win games. Though, the difference could come from whether or not we see them turn up the defense as much possible - with Chandler and Haywood they've got bodies to keep Wade and Bron from walking to the rim... it depends on well they stay out of foul trouble (a hassle for both) and how the zone makes Wade and Bron jumpshooters. If their bench shows up, and - crucially - if they can get enough of a spread of offense from Jet, Barea, Matrix, Chandler and even Kidd, to back up Dirk, they will have a very good chance.

Keep Bosh out of the game as much as possible, don't let Wade and Bron get to the rim - go from there.

an incredibly interesting matchup; fitting for a season that's had so many ups and downs.

I love me some Mavs, and even though it's going to be ultra-fucking-tough for them, i have them getting the split in miami (game 2) and winning in 6, erasing the demons of '06. Dirk gets Finals MVP and cements himself as one of the best power forwards of all time.
