The quick answer MissAustralia is that no Revolution is swift..it always is a long process leading up to it however the act if insurrection can be swift, e.g the Bolshevik October Revolution.

As for successfull, well October was successful and in my opinion the greatest event in human history. Howver counter-revolution followed there also but to go into more depth about why would be to hijack the thread.

Manhattan, The movement has grown way beyond the anger about rigged elections. So if you want to narrow the discussion to questions of parliamentary democracy start a new thread or get out of the new one if you cant lend a hand.

oh and sting-bono forgot to say...US Imperialism can do nothing good for the people of Iran. Obama and his hawkish mates should stay the fuck out. Obama didn't spark off this movement by his speech in Cairo...what planet are you on? The economic crisis, rigged elections and the repressive Islamic Republic are the reasons for this mass movement.

The only people that can make lasting change in Iran are the Iranians themselves. And in particulair the Iranian working class. Whats helping to bring about regime change is the mass protests and demonstrations, Twitter & Facebook is just a means of communication. And besides most of the communication networks within Iran have been cut off. However the demonstrations continue minus the Internet.

That above quote is elitist. It indicates the the mass of support from around the world is for nothing and that people tainting their avatars green or whatever is just a meaningless gesture. Again, the only real force for change is the Iranian working class. All we can do in the west is show our solidarity green avatars and protests are an indication of this international solidarity. These demonstrations in Iran can and are inspiring people all over the world to challenge their own regimes.This is a good thing.
