I've rather enjoyed the bits I've seen of Limmy's Show. Odd, funny and unsettling. Of course we'll never get it here will we?

I caught Griff The Invisible on the weekend. Really wanted it to work but found the plot holes, character inconsistencies and embarrassingly clunky dialogue a bit hard to get past. It felt like a great idea sent into production with a not-quite-ready script. Shame really.

Wow. John Clarke on Twenty Twelve, and why the whole concept seems... er... oddly familiar - ie. they nicked it.

Sad in that there are a whole bunch of people involved in the UK version whose previous work I've rather admired (probably more so than The Games, just quietly). Nasty stuff.

Melbourne Restaurant Recommendations #2

I had a bit of a Vietnamese weekend. It may seem an odd choice given its location inside an ugly arcade next to the Video Ezy, but Green Tea in Flemington is winning my vote for best Vietnamese food in Melbourne so far. Lovely salads (green apple and seafood... Papaya and beef) claypots, bun all tasty. Also tried Sapa Hills. Not so impressed. To be fair, entrees were very nice- esp the beef in vine leaves. Buy I think we picked some dud mains. Salty greasy fish dish buried in onion and a house speciality chicken dish that arrived wrap in foil and on fire (which looked cool) but when opened was battered, deep fried and doused in bright red sweet and sour sauce. Ick. To be fair it seemed others were ordering stuff that looked nicer . And experience wasn't helped by a Footscrayzy local that leered at me through the window for a good ten mins. Might need to give it another chance.

Funniest musician

Seconded Jarvis Cocker and Stephin Merrit.

I also found Neko Case's stage banter kind of fun.

The graphic novels thread.

Odd. I just noticed Readings has a large pile of Jimmy Corrigans. Years ago you'd be hard pressed to see one anywhere. I think both copies I've had (one to replace the loaned-out copy that was never returned) were ordered in. Did it get on a school or uni reading list, or did folks get taste?

I can't help feeling like the worst kind of music snob who gripes when her favourite band suddenly becomes wildly popular.

Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!

Yes, no doubt many reputable TV critics like to form an opinion about an entire series after hearing about it “five minutes ago” on a web forum and watching a few seconds of footage.

In the interests of disclosure, yes I did meet these guys last year, but only after stalking them on the internet when my writing partner and I saw some of their Morningshines sketches and liked them very much.

I can verify that they are funny, talented non-cuntish fellows who I hope to see on screen again someday. Now I will stop responding as you’re all entitled to your opinions and I’m coming close to breaking my new year’s resolution to not argue with utter, utter ballbags on the internet.

I'd say it's an influence, sure. Just as the Office is an influence on Chris Lilley and Nighty Night Seems to be a very obvious influence on the librarians. I wouldn't say exactly the same. I reckon there are a lot of great sketches in Morningshines. And some brilliant songs. But if your mind's made up I shan't bother trying to change it.

I talked up this show in one of the other threads when it was first aired some months ago. I stand by my fangirl love of it. Fact is it has made me laugh more than any other local comedy in years. And I don't care what y'all say just quietly.
Suppose it's just par for the course that any comedy with low-fi sensibilities now gets compared to Tim and Eric just as anything remotely absurd is still lazily called ''pythonesque''.
I reckon these guys also have plenty of Britcomedy influences, which is perhaps why I enjoy their stuff. I'd rather see bonkers stuff like this than more of the Office-lite awkward mockumentaries/ fly on the wall comedies local networks still insist on commissioning, at least five years after this style of comedy was relevant.
