the Metcard system is almost life-expired and would need to have been replaced anyway.
and i'd best keep my opinions to myself.

1) To be fair, you should also consider the cheaper weekend fares ($3 daily cap) and the alignment with the current 'multiple' Metcard ticketing.
2) Technically, it's contactless, so it's not a swipe card, nor is Metcard a punch card.
3) This isn't street-teaming.
4) $1.35 billion
5) myki will be free when it's introduced.
6) you have to pay to be reimbursed for unused Metcards as well.

If you've still got that weekly ticket Block, you'd just use that. You wouldn't have to pay extra.
red menace: If you touch on in the zone covered by your weekly/monthly, you won't be charged if you forget to touch off.

red menace:
I have a weekly Zone 1 ticket which costs $29.40, and I want to travel to Zone 2 on the weekend. The cost of daily Zone 1+2 ticket on the weekend is $3. It would be unfair to pay the full $3, as I'm already entitled to travel in Zone 1, so to travel in Zone 2 I only pay the difference up to the $3. The maximum of which is $1.47.

max $1.47. which you'll need myki money to pay for.

sorry, you're right. you pay the gap between the weekly and the $3.

louis, see answer above -- under myki, you'll get $3 Zone 1+2 travel on Saturday and Sunday, which is the same price as the 5xWeekend.

Good question Block.
The removal of Zone 2 weekend travel for Zone 1 periodical ticket holders (and vice versa) is counterbalanced by the introduction of a flat $3 daily fare for unlimited Zone 1 and 2 weekend travel.
So, the answer is $3. You'll still, of course, be able to use your weekly ticket within Zone 1 on the weekend.
While this is inconvenient for your situation, the introduction of cheaper weekend fares will benefit other people. Such is the nature of policymaking,

All About Me
The first record I ever bought was 'Whispering Jack' by John Farnham, with a Brashs voucher. I was seven. I wanted Poison's 'Open Up And Say ... Ahh!', but my mother didn't like the cover, and suggested Farnham might be a better choice.
I listened to 'Whispering Jack' a fair bit. I enjoyed flipping the sides of the record. 'Going Going Gone' was the last track on Side One, and I always flipped it before that track, because it was the only one I didn't like. I think I referred to it as 'stupid' at the time.
Still, to this day, I wonder the path my musical life would have taken if Poison was the first record I ever bought.
