Pony, like all other venues, had to tough out the 2am lock out for several months. Once progress was made with the government over 100 music venues and nightclubs were granted exemptions. Pretty much every venue that trades after 2am got an exemption, which marked the beginning of the end for the lock out. That doesn't mean Pony didn't have to suffer through the lock out during the previous months.

And while Pony may be classified as High Risk, they still have unusual licensing conditions, regarding security, specifically.

Pony and Bar Open have to give new bands a go, 'cause no one else would play there, surely?

Unlikely, Ricko, the new proprietors don't have the same relationship with bands as the old Tote crew.

Modi, your comments are really unfair. Both venues have played an important role in the local music scene. Bands like My Disco, Eddy Current and even Jet cut their teeth at Pony. Don't be such a sour lemon.

Strangely enough, Mr. Perring's other venues don't have the same licensing conditions as everyone else, either.

That's not true either. Both Pony,and Yah Yah's are in the high risk category. I'm not sure about Bar Open.

It didn't ... it had to deal with the 2am lockout like all other venues. After the protests however several venues got exeptions from the lockout, including Pony.

Upstairs hasn't been soundproofed yet, but it will be before any gigs are held up there. The owners aren't assuming that because the upstairs band room is on the second level that there won't be any soundproofing needed, that's a bit silly.
