A pretty convincing win. Interesting to see Hussey and Ponting get the most runs after all the calls for them to be sacked. Some interesting dilemmas for the selectors coming up ahead: a) who gets dropped when Watson returns to the squad? b) who gets dropped for Harris?

I beat kuroneko today too. I was sure I'd lose. With all tiles out of the bag, the scores were level. Twice. And then all my good letters were gone, and I had nothing except two 'i's and nowhere good to put them. I thought I was done for. Except then she had to skip a turn. And so I won by default. Great game!

Interesting side. Cowan and Warner is a good combo as openers. Christian being more of a batsman than a bowler, I imagine he's in there in case Marsh turns out to be more iffy than suspected, because I doubt they'd get rid of Hussey just yet. I'd pick Hilfenhaus over Starc, who needs more experience, but that both of them are in the team suggests exactly how injury-struck Australian bowling is right now.

If there was any, it shows that payola as a poor business model as radio plays don't translate into sales/chart positions
Yeah, that's true. Maybe those two songs were the two token new songs they played on rock stations this year amidst all the Chisel and Led Zeppelin and Pearl Jam?

It's actually pretty amazing that a song that only got to #25 in the charts was the most played song of the year (and a song that only got to #27 was #3). I wonder how much payola was involved?
Whitest genre of music???

I reckon there's two thing here...there's a) black music and b) black musicians. Black music comes from black culture, music that's meant to say things about what it's like to be black etc, but black musicians are also often plenty good at playing what is generally music that comes from white culture.
shhh, no-one tell Jessye Norman! (or Kathleen Battle or Leontyne Price who I had a ladycrush on a few years ago) (or the chick in the film Diva, who sang La Wally) (...or Kiri?)
There's been lots of classical performers who have been black over the years, but most of them sing songs written by Germans who died 100+ years ago, for better or worse - it's pretty much literally what 'classical music' specifically means. Even the kind of Western art music that was all the rage while rock and roll was happening (John Cage/Arthur Schoenberg, etc) is all white dudes getting very cerebral. There's little rhythm there, very little that comes from black music.
There were black people playing some variants of country and blues as early as the 1930s.
rigid is right: the banjo originally came from Africa. There was a lot of racial and musical intermixing in the Appalachians, where country music came from. Hank Williams learned to play guitar from a black street performer who taught him the blues. Willie Nelson's collaborated with Snoop Dogg. etc.

Considering as white slaveowners in the pre-Civil War USA apparently mostly liked to listen to classical music, I think it probably wins.

I'm looking forward to seeing this guy go the way of Brando - 350lbs, sitting in his front yard yelling at people going to the nearby church on Sunday mornings.
:(
juice, depends on how advanced the cancer is and how healthy he is, etc. he probably won't have much energy to be a culture warrior for some time, at least.
I was very surprised at how long he had the energy to keep writing. It must have been something he really did live for.

I second Double Indemnity and In A Lonely Place. Two of the greatest films ever made.
