Advice re: selling record collection?

Comment I Made 17 days ago

Ok thanks. General consensus seems to be: list things on here first.

I looked on popsike.com but the search function doesn't seem to be very good? At least with discogs you can enter a whole bunch of search data including catalogue number.

I forgot to say, there's probably about 300 records so it's a lot to haul to the record store, but also a lot to sell off one by one, too.

Hello,

I used to be an M+Ner a long time ago. I haven't looked at this site for ages so forgive me if there's already a thread on this.

Anyway, I have several crates of vinyl that I'm looking to sell, because I have nowhere to put the records and nothing to play them on and they've been sitting at a friend's house for four years anyway. Also, I don't really listen to music very often anymore.

I have some rare things, and a lot that isn't particularly rare. I'm just wondering if people have advice/experience in selling off lots of records - is it worth the time and effort and postage costs to sell things individually, through eBay or Discogs? Or does it work out pretty much the same in the end to haul them to a record store and get paid? I know that places in Sydney like Red Eye buy for peanuts and then mark up wildly.

I'm a bit sad to sell them off but really, it's time to let go of clutter.

Thanking you,

EH.

I'm very sorry, ocelotl. How awful for you.

For what it's worth, I lost my grandfather early last year, and since then three friends all far too young. One to suicide, one to cancer, one this week to a car accident.

Well one of those was Adam, who I know was dear to many people here.

And then somewhere in between I had a relationship break-up.

Sometimes I wonder, when the fuck does it get easier? Does it ever?

I would really just like to get through six months without someone else dying. Four deaths in eighteen months is really, well... compound grief.

Health is a distant country. Far from anywhere. My hands shake, I feel dizzy most days.

Thanks, __v.

I also do not recommend re-watching Michael Winterbottom's Wonderland. It makes London seem even more isolating and lonely than New York actually feels.

Right, that's me done here for another five years, then.

Oh, that's a nice thing to say. Thanks postergirl. You were always a good one around here.

And so you find yourself logging into a message board that you haven't read for years now, because home feels so far away, and grief fills up that space, though at some point becomes a wretched depression. One might even listen to The Holy Bible on repeat, like it was 1994 all over again, or some other now irretrievable time when certain loved ones were alive in the world. Etc etc. And I'll regret posting this in about twenty seconds.
