this kind of thing does sometimes happen in print press where ads pay for space to run editorial... i mean advertorial? i don't know whether modular demanded they run their own review (perhaps a review fell through or something) or whether russh just dumbed out and dropped the ball, but in the end it seems a bit weird - how hard is it to give a free cd to a writer and get them to write some thoughts?
