Perring: Licensing Laws Still Need ‘Rethink’
Comment I Made about 2 years ago
I had a frightening conversation with a friend over the weekend who told me the story of a wine stand at the Vic Market. Because they sell alcohol at 9am, Sue Brown-Shirt McKellan and her little Gestapo minions raised their fees, from 250 a year or thereabouts, to 12K. I'm not kidding. A B&B was forced to pay up because they had a decanted bottle of Sherry available. The LL Black Boots rocked up at 10pm one night and demanded to see what alcohol was being served. Isn't that harassment???
Unfortunately, these are true stories. It is not just ridiculous, it is frightening Not just for live music venues, but the LLV will use any excuse to raise revenue. What next, house parties? What's to stop the govt from enforcing a licence to hold a party in your own home??? OK you're not selling the stuff, but they'll come up with some hindering violence clause.

Also, this from the Herald-Sun. Not the best source, but grateful for the coverage (despite all the scare-tactical reporting on Violence in Melb streets).

My article about the fear for the future in live music, an allegorical piece. The closure of The Tote & Arthouse is indicative of the lack of choices we face

i can't see how this is a problem. regardless of her bad taste conflicting with your own cultured and sophisticated style, at least she's reliable. surely rearranging everything you need to do wouldn't be that difficult when you're so obviously watching everything she does so closely. some may consider your need to so closely monitor her every movement rather odd. others might take out a restraining order. perhaps you need to either get a life or get some friends.
It is a problem when I want to have friends around, or a boyfriend and she's constantly there, in your face. There is a need for privacy sometimes. You see, I'm the one with friends and a life. Can I help that I have quite an involved life that changes? Sorry, my philosophy is that change is life (and if you deny that you are living in a bubble), and living in minute routine everyday would drive me mad. Pardon me for LIVING and going with the flow.

Do you know how hard I'm holding myself back from doing a Block related parody thread right now? Last night's episode was pretty light-on, but it's always good to see Patti Smith. It's always bad to see the Clash.
Block: are there any other Block parodies you have threaded (and I understand why ;) Clash: Yeah, there's just something about them that doesn't quite do it

So cover bands need not apply? That seems both harsh and pointless, on a few levels.
There are cover bands, and then there are cover bands. Harsh yes, but not pointless, on all levels. It's about choice and personal taste, remember?

Sounds more like you are the bad housemate.
Yes, however, when you have to rearrange everything you need to do because she cannot compromise, the bitch comes out to play.
It's just mind boggling to really live in close proximity to someone who really lives the work/come home to TV/sleep/work/ etc kind of life. It's death!
