Yes, but I think the ''treasured sense of ordinariness'' your referred to is a nostalgic notion that no longer holds true - now arrogance is more prized than egalitarianism. The high-handed sneering tone of many arguments on this site is what I was referring to, not conservatism or reluctance to embrace differences. I'd like to read the book to see what Graney has to say about the way Australia views itself.

Not being a The Clean fan, I found them to be pretty boring on the whole.

I'm not a Clean fan either, but somehow I found myself going to their concert and writing negative comments in a thread about them. Funny old life.
