Great Debate #4: Horse Stories Vs Ocean Songs
Comment I Made 11 days ago
Horse Stories is probably the definitive Dirty Three album. That said, and even though it's kind of an outlier in their discography (or maybe because of it), Ocean Songs will probably always be THE D3 album for me. It could be the most beautiful record I've ever heard.

i'd say ExCon is on the money (no pun intended). if they'd halved the ticket price they probably would have sold WAY more tickets, more than enough to make up for the reduction in price. i know HEAPS of people who would have gone if the tickets had been a more reasonable price. the hifi always seemed too ambitious for a niche band like swans, no matter how influential they are.
oh well, getting my refund from this cancelled show meant i had the money to go see monarch on saturday night.

regarding turnpike, they're part way through recording a new record. 5 songs complete minus vocals. i imagine it might be a while until it's done though, since adam just had another baby.

song playing over the end credits is 'you put out the fire' from the little bit of light ep.

i just want to say that i'm vehemently against the idea of no anchor going back to being a 2pc. i'm a convert to their trio format.

I'd say the same about the hanger but i wasnt on the invite list cos im not a twenty nothing > shoe gazer living in one of the approved cool streets of highgate hill.. or maybe i just got one > of em on a shit day and they dont like questions from strangers... Myopic clique based scenes are the bain of brisvegas imho
the hangar was anything but that. they didn't publicly promote their shows because they liked to keep the crowds to a manageable amount of people who genuinely wanted to be there (and also because they didn't want to draw attention to a venue running in the middle of a residential area), but all you had to do was sign up to an email list to find out what was happening there. it was hardly a closed club of cool kids. the people who run it are some of the most open minded people i've met.

daz: check out woodland before writing it off (that's rather unlike you). it's great. sound isn't bad imo, and it's completely separate from mustang. it's a great venue. like the troubadour meets the rev.

well, souths league club (aka 'the nest') is most likely starting shows up again, though it looks like you'll need shows that can bring at least 100 payers to make it viable.
