Anyone been to Darwin?

Hmm, I guess there's nothing for it but to try them all. I might miss the festival, though - the experiment will be over by then, I think. Damn. Hopefully there'll be stuff on anyway!

Mr Lilo will be there for 6 weeks so it doesn't really matter when I go.. when is the festival?

Apparently the best laksa IN THE WORLD is to be found at the night market!

Last time I went to the night market I ate too much fairy floss and threw up.

I'm heading up there for 2 weeks in July. Thanks for all the info, redlips and scuz! I haven't been there in 20 years so I'm really looking forward to it. Mr Lilo will be busy at work lighting fires but I plan to spend two weeks by the pool with a beer next to me.

So my fuckup for not checking what kind of appointment it was but honestly, who makes a hairdresser's appointment for when they're supposed to be working? I thought it was a doctor's appointment or something, something that couldn't have waited.

She told me she had an important appointment and that she'd be gone about half an hour, so I said OK. I rang her when she wasn't back and she admitted she was at the hairdressers, so I told her I was unimpressed and to not bother coming back to work since she had only half an hour or so to go anyway.

I told off my boss's daughter and then my boss's wife rang up and told me that I have no authority over her daughter and that I am just a retail shop worker and that I take my job too seriously.

Then my boss rang up and apologised for his wife's call.

Not really fucking up but I was a bit stunned.

Teaching? No way...

Finishing my degree isn't really something I'm interested in.. my interests and goals have changed so much since I started it 10 years ago that there's not much point. I'd much rather get a traineeship or something with a job at the end of it - a degree in Australian history was never going to get me that.

I love it that this has become Lilo's Career Crisis Thread.

Thanks spaceman and woolfat! I think the tafe route would probably be best considering the amount of change my life's going to go through in the next couple of years. A traineeship could work, but it's likely we'll have to move when Mr Lilo graduates next year, (there's not many jobs around for fire ecologists in Hobart..) so I don't want to commit to on the job training and have to quit halfway through.

Anyway. Things to think about at least!

None yet, but in the next year or two, definitely. I don't have any qualifications other than three-quarters of an arts degree. I don't have lofty ambitions, but I'm sick of customer service and I'm looking for something different that will be flexible enough for my future plans.

I see! I was thinking of studying for a job I could do part-time whilst doing mum duties too, I definitely don't want to be working 60+ hours a week and never see my family! Perhaps book-keeping is more my thing then.
