Great record! Tied with The Lost Domain for best re-issue I bought last year. For those that need to know how this is relevant to their interests Mick Turner (Dirty Three, Venom P Stinger) played guitar on this record.

Cynical takes on classic rock albums

Sloppy high school band get melancholic at the bottom of a bottle of beer. The Replacements - Let It Be

^That's not cynical, pretty apt I reckon (this is coming from someone that calls Let It Be his favourite album ever).

Great Debate #3: Are Cassettes Here To Stay?

Comment I Made 13 days ago

Although I came out on the cynical side of the argument against cassette I want to state that I'm a fan of and still buy cassettes. Beyond the technical sound element, social connotations, blah blah blah I feel cassettes are the appropriate medium for certain types of music. Labels like Breakdance The Dawn, Sabbatical (some releases), Spanish Magic, Magic Crowbar, Hanson Records, Redundancy Music (new label from Jarrod of Fab D, four great releases so far). A marginal medium for marginal music. I can't be bothered articulating why I think the music these labels release is at home on the cassette form. The only person in this thread that I think would enjoy this type of music but dislikes the medium would be FrankieTeardrop. It's not like The Drones have a cassette only release coming up so why bother getting your knickers in a twist. I find the culture of soundcloud/bandcamp only releases unappealing but i guess it works for those bedroom producer/''beat'' orientated music (like a demo cassette works for a crude d-beat band) so why complain.

Yes there has been a hipster appropriation of the cassette, shitty Wavves-esque flipped brim hat, meme-rock bands that release cassettes in an attempt for legitimacy but anyone claiming the labels I've mentioned above having a hipster agenda is straight up wack.
