New Guided By Voices is great. Out Jan 1. A return to the ramshackle weirdness GBV.

Toadphoney, I found the series started out a bit heavy handed and '24' and got a lot better as it progressed. Enough to make me think it was all done pretty knowingly. Ep 7 is fkn amazing tele. And by the end of the series, I found that what initially looked like a straightforward thriller / espionage story had a few more layers. I thought it explored a lot of different types of fanaticism by the end.

The Man Who Wasn't There by the Cohen Bros plays on all this stuff - and is great.

It's a western but Way Of The Gun has some pretty serious noir elements (namely the morally dubious 'loser' style protagonist found in a lot of noir).
