I only just heard Street Horrrsing, and I love it. I can't put my finger on who they remind me of. Any thoughts?
Hey, a post every four weeks is pretty good for me. I'l be putting more up this weekend, probably. I'm currently working through all the material I've done on the laptop with an acoustic guitar and pen and paper; it helps get me to the core of the structure of what I'm writing.
No shows yet; I'm writing all the material for the new album to be performed live as a solo act, as opposed to the non-existent 5-piece I wrote the last album for.
The blog covers everything that's going on with the new album, and I'll post all show info as it comes up.
...and I've just posted some unreleased tracks to the blog.
Enjoy:
Hi all on Mess+Noise ,
My name is Jason. I live in Brunswick, Melbourne, and I’m releasing music under the name “The Vorstand Circus”. I released the first Vorstand Circus album, “Sworn In On A Stack Of Dictionaries”, myself in 2005. It made it into the final 20 of the Australian Music Prize that year.
You can download the whole album and its artwork for free at my website here:

If you’d like a preview, here’s the first track:

I think the album sounds like a combination of Neutral Milk Hotel, Arcade Fire and Fables-era REM.
I’m currently working on the second Vorstand album, which I’m writing to be performed live by myself with keys, guitar and laptop. I’m writing a blog about it as I do it at:

Cheers.

What the critics said about ''Sworn In.....'':
HarmoniumMusic.com :
''Four Stars''
''..is it the sound of several of your favourite moody guitar bands blended; the sound of one lonely guy in the wrong country with a PC and a lot of time to kill; the sound of confession and optimism crashing together; the sound of grey turning into sunrise? No— none of these descriptions fit. And they certainly fail to do the music justice.
Ear Farm:
''The Vorstand Circus deserve attention...lots of attention, and fans and critical praise.''
''That this is all the work of one guy is something to be recognised as genius.''
Obscure Sound:
''It retains a chilling atmosphere through Allen’s flawless vocals that bands such as The Arcade Fire do so well.''
''The thing that amazes me about The Vorstand Circus is the complexity and diversity of the album.''
Berkeley Place
''Sworn In On A Stack Of Dictionaries,” .has already made it into the final 20 of 2005’s Australian Music Prize. They lost to the likes of The Go-Betweens, Architecture In Helsinki, and The Drones, but just being in their company shows the band has something going on.''
