Dan Kelly has confirmed the demise (for now) of his ever-changing band, The Alpha Males. With Dan Luscombe having already taken up a guitar in The Drones, the group’s rumoured disbandment is now certain after Kelly put out a statement to media and fans.
“Myself and the fabulous Alpha Males will be parting ways for a good while. I’m going to do a solo album next and head overseas and they’re all off doing other groovy and happening youthquake explosion stuff for the rest of the year. We will probably play together again (think of them as Crazy Horse without the record sales), but not for a good stretch. There is no drama, we all still love each other. It’s actually quite sickening,” wrote Kelly.
After two albums and over 400 gigs, the group will play a farewell headline show at Melbourne’s Northcote Social Club on Thursday April 12. For a better idea of the next phase in Kelly’s career holds, see his solo tour diary in the next issue of Mess+Noise magazine, available this Monday.
