After ten years together acclaimed Melbourne indie duo Sodastream have announced they’re parting ways. In an e-mail sent out yesterday, Karl Smith and Pete Cohen wrote in part:
“With this email comes the sad news that after 10 years, Sodastream are calling it a day. Our reasons are complex and many, but above all, it is out of respect to the music that we make that we have decided not to force a situation that could potentially damage our many happy memories of the journey thus far.
“Throughout our five albums, four EPs, seven international tours and countless shows around Australia we have had the privilege of working with many incredible people, and have made a lot of great friends. We have also received amazing amounts of generosity and hospitality from people all over the world. It is those people we have worked with, the friends we have made, and that generosity which we have received that has sustained us all this time, and ‘thank you’ isn’t nearly enough to express how much we appreciate it all.”
Sodastream, who started out in Perth, can count numerous highlights to their career, including early support from the legendary British DJ John Peel through to their 2006 album, Reservations. They’ll play a final show together at Melbourne’s East Brunswick Club on Saturday 2 March.
