Eddy Current Suppression Ring – the Melbourne garage rock quartet whose self-titled debut album picked up the 2006 Mess+Noise Users’ Poll award for best Australian release – will be heading into back into the studio in February, although they’re unsure if the session will eventuate in a seven-inch single or a brand new album.

“Hopefully we’ve got as good, if better, songs this time,” said the band’s guitarist and keyboardist, Mikey “Eddy Current” Young. “It won’t be a radical departure – we’re not about to go through a psychedelic stage. Hopefully it will just be a better version of us.”

Despite recent shows in Melbourne turning into celebrations where the audience are literally all over the band and a growing list of accolades for an album recorded in just a few hours, the four-piece are still taken aback at the reaction they’re evoking.

“When I found we’d won the Mess+Noise award I was just stoked,” admits Young. “I still find it amazing that people care about it enough to vote for it or make it Triple R album of the week or stuff like that.”
