Having self-financed the recording of their new album, Silverchair offer up the first sample today, with the radio and online debut of their new single, ‘Straight Lines’. The track, the first new material from the former grunge titans in five years, precedes their album, Young Modern, which is to be released on March 31.
Young Modern was produced by Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns and veteran studio hand Nick Launay (midnight Oil), although Johns reportedly dispensed with Launay’s services along the way. The album’s title comes from a passing remark by Van Dyke Parks, the legendary arranger who contributed his talents to several tracks, that was intended as a casual term of affection for Johns.
