– Working in her home studio, Sally Seltmann (New Buffalo, Seeker Lover Keeper) has gathered enough material for her fourth album, which is being co-producing with her husband, The Avalanches’ Darren Seltmann. In the meantime, she’s playing a special trio of gigs that will strip back songs from 2010’s lushly orchestrated Heart That’s Pounding to piano and acoustic guitar, as well as previewing songs from the next record. The gigs include a stop at the Adelaide Festival as part of Doveman’s Burgundy Stain Sessions.
Tues, Mar 5 – Dunstan Playhouse, Adelaide Festival Centre, Adelaide, SA
Wed, Mar 20 – The Famous Spiegeltent, Melbourne, VIC
Thurs, Mar 21 – The Vanguard, Sydney, NSW

– Scrappy guitar-pop quartet The Stevens have signed to Melbourne’s venerable Chapter Music, putting them in the company of likeminded janglers Dick Diver and Twerps. Chapter will reissue the band’s self-titled 2012 EP – originally limited to tape and CD-R – as a 7” on April 5. It’s also available digitally right now for just $5. The Stevens are working on a new album with Mikey Young, set for release later this year, and will support The Wedding Present on Wednesday, February 27 at Northcote Social Club. The band were previously included on a four-band compilation 7” put out by English band Male Bonding and in our New Melbourne Jangle scene survey.
– There’s a new Single Twin album, guys. And it’s free – or, more accurately, a name-your-price download whose proceeds will go towards the vinyl pressing of 2011’s Marcus Teague. That’s fitting since Nice Cutlass is comprised of songs and ideas that didn’t make it onto that album, including the Thee More Shallows cover ‘Ave Grave’ and the track ‘Long Weekend’ – first heard via Single Twin’s predecessor, Deloris.
