Gigs In Brief: Popstrangers, The In The Out, Day Ravies, The Ocean Party

– Auckland trio Popstrangers bring their Forthcoming debut LP to Australia with a trio of gigs in March. Antipodes is out March 1 through Spunk and has already set the bar pretty high with the singles ‘Heaven’ and ‘What Else Could They Do?’. The band also made a swell Kiwi-themed mixtape for RCD LBL recently. Spunk bandmates Bored Nothing and Bearhug will support for most of the below gigs.

Thurs Mar 7 –GoodGod Small Club, Sydney, NSW [w/Bored Nothing + Bearhug]
Sat, Mar 9 – The Phoenix, Canberra, ACT [free, w/Bored Nothing + Bearhug]
Sun, Mar 10 – The Gasometer, Melbourne, VIC [w/Bored Nothing]

– The self-titled debut EP from Melbourne trio The In The Out pairs frontman Dallas Gale (Deserters, Dead River Deeps) with bassist Paul Maybury (Rocket Science) and drummer Angus Boyle (ex-The Dacios). Bassist Christopher Grat and drummer Sam Fiddian have since taken their place, but the four-song EP remains the band’s calling card for now. They’re taking it on the road for four consecutive tour dates, with support from Melbourne’s Nervous (featuring members of Pop Singles) and Sydney’s Box of Fuck and the EP-launching The Dead Heads.

Thurs, Feb 7 – The Phoenix, Canberra, ACT [free, w/The Dead Heads, Box of Fuck + Nervous]
Fri, Feb 8 – FBi Social, Sydney, NSW [$10, w/The Dead Heads, Box of Fuck + Nervous]
Sat, Feb 9 – Barcode, Wollongong, NSW [$10, w/The Dead Heads, Box of Fuck + Nervous]
Sun, Feb 10 – Yah Yah’s, Melbourne, VIC [free, w/The Midnight Scavengers + Nervous]

THE IN THE OUT - Heat by THE IN THE OUT

– Fresh off the single ‘Double Act’ – and its very DIY film clip – Sydney’s Day Ravies are cruising up and down the East Coast. The jaunt includes a stop at Gangbusters, the all-star indie bash put on by Melbourne label Birds Love Fighting. The next thing we hear from Day Ravies might well be their first album, due this year on Popfrenzy.

Fri, Feb 8 – Gasometer, Melbourne, VIC [w/Songs]
Sat, Feb 9 – Gangbusters @ Grace Darling, Melbourne, VIC [w/The Ocean Party, Grand Prismatic, Jonny Telafone, Cat Cat, Zone Out, Orbits, Anonymeye + From the South]
Sat, Mar 9 – Grand Central Hotel, Brisbane, QLD
Thurs, Mar 14 – Brighton Up Bar, Sydney, NSW
Fri, Mar 15 – Terrace Bar, Newcastle, NSW [w/No Art +Hell Setzer]

– Also playing that Gangbusters night are the ever-lovable The Ocean Party, who tonight kick off a month-long residency at The Tote. Like their residency there last year, this one handily crystallises the whole Melbourne jangle thing. It also sees our boys promoted from the front bar to the proper bandroom. All residency dates are $8, starting at 8:30pm.

Wed, Feb 6 – Tote, Melbourne, VIC [w/Autoportraits, Tim Richmond, Magic Hands]
Sat, Feb 9 – Gangbusters @ Grace Darling, Melbourne, VIC [w/Day Ravies, Grand Prismatic, Jonny Telafone, Cat Cat, Zone Out, Orbits, Anonymeye + From the South]

Wed, Feb 20 – Tote, Melbourne, VIC [w/New Estate, Zone Out + Grandstands]
Wed, Feb 27 – Tote, Melbourne, VIC [w/Grand Prismatic, The Clits + Great Outdoors]
