Gigs in Brief: Crime and the City Solution, Dear Time’s Waste, et al

– Simon Bonney has revived the Crime and the City Solution name, and plans for an east coast tour have been announced. The newest incarnation of CATCS, boasting Einstürzende Neubauten’s Alexander Hackey on guitar and The Dirty Three’s Jim White on drums, have also announced the imminent release of a new studio album.

Following the release of a best-of collection, it’s a veritable flurry of activity for the Detroit-based Bonney after a 20 year absence. The tour will be Crime and the City Solution’s first-ever Australian tour, and Sleepy Sun (USA) will be providing support.

– Dan Sultan collaborator Scott Wilson (writer/producer/guitarist) has pulled together a new band, featuring Pete Marin on drums and Bow Campbell (Front End Loader) on vocals. The dubiously-titled Stompy and the Heat have released their self-titled debut, a primitivist rock n’ roll blast, through Masterstroke, and have announced a launch show to celebrate. That show will be taking place at the Tote in Melbourne on Saturday January 12.

Spoils Duo (Sean Simmons and Bron Henderson) will be providing support for Mick Thomas and the Roving commission at Thomas’ customary Christmas Eve show, to be held at the Northcote Social Club. Doors open at 7.30pm, and Spoils Duo hit the stage at 8pm.

Really looking forward to this! Yet another testament to the greatness of Rob McManus and Heathen Skulls as the emerging pre-eminent purveyors of unique and interesting artists in this country.

But, I am spewin' that David Eugene Edwards will not be accompanying them on this sojourn.

the name 'Stompy and the Heat' was a huge barrier to my really listening to their stuff when the press email went round. not sure i even got past it. though it's better to go Too-Daggy than Too-Cool, i suppose..
