Premiere: White Walls ‘Cell’

Mingling textured noise with crisp melodies, ‘Cell’ is a telling first glimpse of White Walls’ self-titled debut album. Like Melbourne’s answer to The Laurels, the trio nod to the mind-bending depths of My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth while keeping things nicely raw along the way. This song slashes, bleeds, slows and distorts – all before arriving at a sharp ending that encourages repeating.
Following a pair of self-released EPs, White Walls recorded the album at Soundpark Studios with producer Andrew 'Idge' Hehir (Dave Graney) before having it mastered by Mikey Young. Out Nov. 9 on Melbourne label Poison City (Infinite Void, The Smith Street Band), the album is now available for pre-order. The band will launch it in December, with other gigs including a support slot for Earthless.
If you’re still not convinced, here’s a blurb from our own Tim Scott: “Channelling both a ferocity and a melody through a twin guitar/drum assault, White Walls offer a different approach to punk music. Describing their sound as ‘obsessive tone worship’, it's obvious that Rory, Fuj and Dylan have listened to their share of early Dinosaur Jr. just as much as they have bands such as The Men and Milk Music. All three share vocals. All three blast. Their debut album is a must.”
