Qantas Announces Extra Baggage For Touring Musos

News posted Tuesday, March 6 2012 at 05:00 PM.
Related: Qantas.

Following an announcement at last year’s BIGSOUND that Virgin was extending its baggage allowance for touring musicians, comes news that Qantas has belatedly followed suit.

The airline has announced a deal whereby eligible musicians travelling domestically can request (in advance) an additional baggage allowance of one piece weighing up to 23 kilograms free of charge, effectively doubling their allowance to 46 kilograms. As for business class/Qantas Club travellers (aka members of Birds of Tokyo and The John Butler Trio), they can now travel with two pieces of luggage weighing up to 62 kilograms in total.

To be eligible for the extra allowances, musicians must be members of an approved industry body including one of AMIN’s member organisations (eg. Music Victoria), the Australian Independent Record Labels Association, APRA or the Musicians Union of Australia. More eligibility requirements and details here.

We still have to listen to Alan Joyce pronounce third 'turd'. And the plane may not take off.

as a ''musician'' I think this will help a bit.
as a regular person - how about travellers being allowed more than 25kg on overseas flights?
