– Documentaries about the late Rowland S Howard and Melbourne’s iconic Tote Hotel will screen back-to-back on ABC2 tonight (January 25). Pieced together over seven years by Melbourne filmmaker Natalie van den Dungen, Persecution Blues: The Battle For The Tote tells the story of the fight to save Melbourne’s iconic Tote Hotel, taking in the final days before the venue’s brief closure in 2010. It’ll screen at 8.30pm ahead of Autoluminescent (9.30pm), a vivid portrait of Australian music legend Rowland S Howard directed by Lynn-Maree Milburn and Richard Lowenstein. M+N writer Rene Schaefer was one hand to witness its world premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival in July last year. Review here.
– Melbourne’s The UV Race and San Francisco’s Thee Oh Sees are playing an Australia Day rooftop gig at Melbourne’s The Evelyn Hotel tomorrow (January 26). Thee Oh Sees recently played the “set of the festival” at Sugar Mountain in Melbourne, while The UV Race supported Brisbane’s Loose Grip on an east-coast tour earlier this month. In other news: The Evelyn has a rooftop?

Other speakers include artists Sophia Brous and Chelsea Wilson, as well as Native Digital’s Ned Dwyer and Ashley Sambrooks from Departed Sounds. For more details click here.
– Victoria’s longest-running all-ages festival returns to Melbourne’s Abbotsford Convent on March 12. Push Over will feature performances by the likes of Alpine, Snakadaktal, Redcoats and Eagle and The Worm, with more acts to be announced including nine young bands who will battle it out in the FReeZA Push Start Grand Final. Push Over is a fully supervised drug, alcohol and smoke-free event managed by non-profit body The Push. Tickets: $40 on sale now through Ticketek.
