Melbourne’s East Brunswick Club has announced details of its final show.
Oscar + Martin, The Parking Lot Experiments and Milk Teddy will bring the curtain down on The East on Wednesday, February 29, following a final month of shows featuring the likes of Jordie Lane, Dick Diver and Geoffrey O'Connor and international acts such as Yuck, Chairlift, and Active Child.
The venue has been forced to call time on seven years of live music after the new owners decided to discontinue the bandroom. A planning permit lodged to Moreland City Council in August suggested it’d soon make way for a five-storey apartment building pending council approval.
In a release issued today, music coordinator Jason Moore said former owners Pete and Pam Benjamin’s retirement was the catalyst for The East’s demise.
“Pete and Pam, the venues owners, have thoroughly enjoyed their time with The East, but after many years in the industry, have decided it's time to kick up their heels and retire. Unfortunately, the new owners will not be continuing the band room.”

Special guests on the 26th?
This will be pretty cool though, hey guys. Am I right or what?
Seeing Low and Battles (seperate shows) were two highlights for me there.
Feb 26th - Whitehorse, Encircling Sea, Fire Witch, Coerce and more
Presented by Heathen Skulls
This is the first place we played where people actually knew the words to some of our songs. Fantastic feeling. It'll always have a place in my heart.
is this the return of ebagc? whos on drums?
Surprising lineup given the band room's penchant of late for really fucking M.O.R alt-country, rock and novelty acts.
