The first new music from The Dirty Three since 2005’s Cinder has turned up on Soundcloud. ‘Rising Below’, which made its premiere on Pitchfork last Friday (January 13), is lifted from the band’s eighth studio album Toward The Low Sun, which will be out on February 24 via Anchor & Hope/Remote Control. It was produced by The Dirty Three and Casey Rice at Head Gap Studios and Sing Sing in Melbourne.

In a soon-to-be published interview with M+N, violinist Warren Ellis said that while the album featured varied instrumentation such as organ, piano and acoustic guitar, it was “basically the three of us playing, mainly live”. The trio will embark on a national tour in March. Dates here.
