Watch: Gotye Covered By 5 People On 1 Guitar

YouTube is awash with covers of Gotye’s duet with Kimbra ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, but few are as dexterous and resourceful as Canadian outfit Walk Off The Earth’s.
Although some YouTube users have already cast doubt on the clip’s authenticity, the quintet (featuring a terminally bored Eric Cantona doppelganger) seemingly use one guitar to piece together the various musical layers of the original, which topped the ARIA charts last year and was listed among our Best Tracks of 2011.
The clip has amassed more than 3,000,000 hits since being posted on January 5, prompting a comment from Gotye himself via Twitter. “I know who to ask for help with acoustic versions of Somebody,” he said.
‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ is the odds-on favourite to take out the triple j “Hottest 100” for 2011, which will be revealed on January 26. In an interview with M+N last year, Gotye said he was dissatisfied with the finished product, but just had to let “[it] go”.
“There wasn’t anything pragmatic or realistic I could do anymore in terms of remixing, tweaking, re-recording vocals, trying another part, or spending more money and time,” he told M+N.

My favourite parts include how the guy sings like he's in an episode of Monkey, and the groups amazing melodies which somehow sound EXACTLY like they're autotuned.

Yeah but really there's nothing wrong with giving it a bit of treatment. I think what we're talking about here is that it wasn't actually tracked in one take on the same instrument at the same time that the video was shot.

My knickers aren't in a twist, but I would suggest that there are many many people who think this was recorded live. I think MOST people would think this was recorded live. Because it's kind of the whole point of the clip.
