Newcastle’s Spring Break!! Returns

After a lengthy absence, Newcastle club night Spring Break!! returns to the Croatian Club for an inaugural all-day festival this Saturday (September 11).
Running across two stages from 2pm, the event will showcase 20 local underground, indie and experimental bands including Crab Smasher (pictured), Alps, Stitched Vision, Polyfox and new Castings-related project Cistern Corrupt. There will also be artists markets and records for sale, as well as “bowls, bocci and giant chess competitions” for the athletically inclined. Entry is $10 with profits going to the financially challenged Croatian Club, which has become a hub for independent music in Newcastle.
The brainchild of local musicians and DJs, Spring Break!! ran weekly at the Croatian Club in 2008. It offered Newcastle's more obscure bands a place to play, as well as hosting the likes of My Disco, Fabulous Diamonds, Naked on the Vague, Batrider, and Kitchen's Floor. Following Saturday’s festival, Spring Break!! will return to the Croatian Club on Wednesday nights.
