Is Ed St John trying to extract himself from the Australian music industry? A day after stepping down as president and CEO of Warner Music Australia, the former journalist and TV producer has relinquished his role as chairman of the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) effective immediately.
While no specific reasons were given for his departure, St John said it was time to “hand over the reins” in a statement circulated to media today (September 7). He said he was particularly proud of increasing the stature of the ARIA Awards and Hall of Fame.
“Our mandate has always been to advance our artists and industry rights to achieve a healthy industry that provides Australian music fans with exciting music entertainment and it’s a challenge we have continued to meet.”
St John, who has served on ARIA’s board for 10 years (the past three as chairman), stood down from the Warner Music top job yesterday in order to “explore new opportunities outside the company”. Although a report on The Music Network suggests he was ousted from the position after an “emergency meeting” last week.
The ARIA board is set to meet in the near future to elect a new chairman.

I reckon he's defecting to an o/s job.
or he's done something very, very naughty...
Someone probably found out he was repsonsible for Powderfinger and Silverchair winning so many fucking Aria awards.
The Australia Marketing Awards
I hope he isn't looking to become a full time author. The book he wrote about Michael Hutchence was dodgy.
TONY ABBOTT, I'MMA LET YOU FINISH, BUT MY CONCESSION WAS THE BEST CONCESSION OF etc etc etc
To be on the ARIA board, let alone chairman, you have to run a record label or be high up at one and serve as proxy for your boss. Out at Warners means he's automatically out at ARIA.
