Forthcoming: Bombazine Black

News posted Thursday, September 2 2010 at 12:00 PM.
Related: Gersey, Bombazine Black.

What: Motion Picture by Bombazine Black.

When: September 3 through Youthful Chaos with distribution by new artist-run label Letters & Tapes.

Key notes: Second album for Melbourne-based instrumental band led by Gersey founding member Matt Davis. Features members of Gersey, Art of Fighting, The Hoodangers and Austin indie rock act Monroe Mustang. The follow-up to last year’s Here Their Dreams, which was composed by Davis during an artistic residency in Paris. Recorded live in Sunset Sounds in Los Angeles and Headgap in Melbourne, and mixed by Tim Whitten. Features seven instrumentals ranging from cinematic scores (‘Montmartre’, ‘Springheel Sunset’) to “almost pop” songs (‘The New Ruse’, ‘Roosevelt’).

From the presser: “Influenced by the swelling patterns and experimentation of musicians such as Górecki, Tortoise, Spiritualized, Miles Davis, Bud Powell and William Basinski, the album instinctively explores and pushes ideas of time, theatre and melody in the quest for a pure, new sound.”
