Related: You Am I.

What: You Am I by You Am I.
When: October 8 through Other Tongues/MGM.
Key notes: Ninth album for the Sydney-Melbourne guitar pop greats, who recently signed with fledgling Sydney indie Other Tongues after two albums with EMI. Follows 2008’s return-to-form Dilettantes, which we described as “a shift away from the traditional pop/rock song structure”. Produced by ARIA Award-winning engineer Greg Wales and mixed by James Cadsky, the album was recorded over various sessions and studios without “deadlines and restrictions”. Features background vocals by Megan Washington on ‘Lie And Face The Sun’.
From the presser: “There’s a purity, a sense of purpose, control and new beginnings around calling the album You Am I that’s appropriate and right on.”

We Hardly Knew You
Kicking The Balustrade
Lie And Face The Sun

I really like the cover.
yeah, nice cover art.
great cover art - the text looks like the text on Augie March's debut LP...
still not sure it'll make me interested enough in this album to bother listening...
Lookin' forward to it!
...any chance of a vinyl release for this album?
Would appear to be by Geelong's own Rick Chesshire.
Can't wait! What's the single?
great artwork! excited. good luck.
''...Follows 2008’s return-to-form Dilettantes...''.
Return to form? Really? I thought it was easily the worst record they've released.
I'd put it ahead of Convicts, Dress Me Slowly and Deliverance.
Same Chesshire that does the awesome Unbelievably Bad cartoons (that have hung shit on Tim Rogers on more than one occasion)? Either way, awesome art.
every album they claim is a return to form, i don't see how this is possible when they've never really lost it
and you'd be wrong.
no, it's not sound as ever. its 15 years later. there are some genuinely great songs on it - the piano up the tree is right up there - , though owing more to rogers solo records than to previous band stuff.
i still play it, though for various reasons it breaks my heart.
I guess that depends a lot on how low a standard you consider 'in-form' to be for the group.
hi fi way>sound as ever
what's the sydney/melbourne thing
melbourne has everything why can't you am i be ours???
great artwork? What the fuck is wrong with you people?
It looks like a bad year 12 major work that just scraped into ArtExpress on account of the girl who painted it gave sir a wristie behind the industrial arts building.
sadly, not when half of them live there.
though hourly daily is a rock opera that could only be based in somewhere between newtown, balmain, annandale and petersham...
that's the thing monty
even if all of them live in melbourne, to me - they are just so utterly sydney - in terms of soundtrack to my youth, watching them at all ages gigs and the songs themselves - walking around those very suburbs you mention - it just seems so right, seems to fit...like the soundtrack to a sydney miscreants life?
am i reading too much into this/over-intellectualising sweet ass rock music monty?
the worst you am i album was clearly snake tide
or are they calling that an EP? either way, what a dog
i do that every day.
as a wise man once said, all hourly daily was missing as a sountrack to the inner-west was the jet noise of being under the flightpath into mascot....absolutely sydney. but some of dilettantes is certainly from a st kilda window.
conversely - paul kelly wrote randwick bells, but he's still a melbourne songwriter.

hahaha so fkn true
funny, i always considered it an album placed much more in suburbia than the inner-west.
but you know, it's all about perspective.
there's bit of a difference between something being a great piece of art and a nice album cover...
shame it's neither then
inner west suburbia - lilyfield, leichhardt and annandale rather than the 'hipper' newtown etc...
anyone got the houly daily LP they are willing to part with?
Hourly Daily wasn't released on LP
well that explains why ive nver been able to find it!
i wonder why.. everything else has been hasnt it? possibly not hi fi way?
The only you am i studio album to be released on vinyl is Dress me Slowly.
There has been some singles / EP's on vinyl though.
I have heard that this self titled released will be on vinyl though.
wow.. i never knew that.. i have dress me slowly, and have seen EP's and singles from time to time so i figured their whole discography was probaby available, just that the run's had been exhausted.
yeah i heard that about the newie, you can also order a signed edition off the JB website.
anyone heard it yet?
thanks for the info heads up
noisymess i mean!
only heard the song 'shuck' ... i like it

You guys should enter the friday quiz.
'Lie And Face The Sun' is really different huh. I'm really enjoying this record.
The coverart is pretty amazing but it looks pretty crap in CD form. If that makes sense.
They should release the back catalogue on vinyl to make a bit of coin. I reckon a lot of peeps would love to hear Hi-Fi way on vinyl. I know I would.
I'd buy the new album on vinyl. Come on Other Tongues!
i'm still waiting for Hi-Fi Way to get a deluxe vinyl pressing on 180g white vinyl...
that would rule.
similarly, Sound As Ever n' Hourly Daily and #4 Record all deserve to be pressed in vinyl...
somebody out there make it happen!
The new cover art stinks but i'm enjoying the album thus far....
