In Brief: AXXONN, Robert Scott, Hello Satellites
  • AXXONN (aka “laptop pop/metal nerd” Tom Hall) has just signed a deal with Useless Art Records. He now joins experimental folk quintet The Honey Month and punk duo DZ at the fledgling Brisbane-based indie. The partnership will yield debut album, Let’s Get it Straight, which will be released in October via Inertia distribution. "This is like Microsoft hiring a diesel mechanic,” said Hall of the signing. The album’s first single, also called ‘Let’s Get it Straight’, will be launched at The Zoo in Brisbane on August 19 when AXXONN supports PVT. In recent times, AXXONN (which has also featured No Anchor’s Ian Rogers) has supported bands such as Isis and Health and toured internationally throughout Europe, Japan and the US, playing in excess of 150 shows in the past 12 months.

  • Pioneer of the “Dunedin sound” Robert Scott will launch his new solo album Ends Run Together at a rare show in Melbourne next month. Scott, a member of seminal Flying Nun groups The Clean and The Bats, will perform at The Empress on September 4. Supports from the Mia Schoen Group, Aktion Unit and Scale Models. Tickets on sale now via www.mistletone.net. Ends Run Together will be available in early September via Mistletone/Inertia.

  • New Two Bright Lakes signing Hello Satellites (aka the new project for singer-songwriter Eva Popov) will launch its debut self-titled album at a matinee show at Melbourne’s Northcote Social Club on August 29. Supports from Manny Fox Hangmans Club and Aluka. Tickets: $10. Doors: 2pm. The album is available in stores now through Remote Control/Inertia. It features first single ‘Out There’, which is currently streaming here. Other upcoming shows include a Pure Pop Records in-store in Melbourne on August 21; a show with The Jewel and The Falcon at Sydney’s Spectrum on September 3; and supporting Skipping Girl Vinegar at The Toff in Melbourne on September 18.
