The Crayon Fields’ Geoffrey O'Connor will take time off from working on his forthcoming solo album to play some hometown shows with his new-look band (featuring members of Aleks & the Ramps, Jessica Says and The Brutals). O’Connor will kick off a busy few weeks with a show tonight (July 29) at the Builders Arms in Melbourne with Tailor Made For A Small Room and Peter Joseph Head. He’ll then support School of Seven Bells from the US at the Northcote Social Club on August 1; Oh Mercy at The Toff In Town on August 26; Princess 1.5 at The Tote on August 28; and First Aid Kit from Sweden, also at The Toff, on September 5. Sandwiched among the support slots is a gig at The Old Bar on August 13 with Milk Teddy, Jessica Says and Heavy Mental. O’Connor’s solo album, his first under his own name, is due out on Chapter Music later this year.
It might be seven months since its release, but Loene Carmen will finally launch her new/old album It Walks Like Love in her adopted hometown of Sydney next month. Carmen and her band, which features members of The Holy Soul and the recently disbanded The Scare, will perform at The Excelsior Hotel in Surry Hills on August 12. Carmen said her band’s extraneous commitments and her involvement in new Australian film Red Dog has made a Sydney launch “impossible” until now. Supports by Chord Blood and A Casual End Mile, with "special guests" TBA. Interview with Carmen here.
Melbourne duo Flying Scribble have set a release date for their debut album. Titled We’re A Chameleon, it’ll be out on August 13 via Queen Silver Enterprises/MGM Green. It features first single ‘Walk The Line’ (not a Johnny Cash cover), which has been remixed by Faux Pas and DJ duo Butcher Blades.
