MJs In Wayne Coyne’s Aus Top 5

Melbourne’s Midnight Juggernauts have received some high praise from none other than The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne.

In a clip posted yesterday on the band’s website, Coyne has included the trio among the likes of Kylie, The Birthday Party, Wolfmother and The Church in a playlist of his favourite Australian acts. The footage was shot in a Sydney hotel room for MySpace during The Flaming Lips’ Australian tour last year. Unsurprisingly, The Midnight Juggernauts played main support.

“[They’re a group] I’m slightly biased towards because we played a couple of shows with them,” says Coyne, clad in a poncho and white wraparound shades, before playing a snippet from 2008 single ‘Into The Galaxy’.

In other MJs news, the band will return to Australia next week ahead of The Splendour in the Grass festival and a bunch of launch dates for their new album The Crystal Axis, which we described as “an earworm of a guilty pleasure and a vivid carnival of odd ideas”. Full details here.

Cool props for MJs, even though other acts he lists (Wolfmother, The Birthday Party) are a hulking pile of shit that I can't believe Coyne likes.
