With the endorsement of none other than Grizzly Bear still ringing in their ears, Perth globetrotters Tame Impala have returned to Australia – but there’s no rest for the wicked (or the wickedly stoned) with the band announcing a national tour and new single.
‘Lucidity’, which showcases Tame Impala at their “unhinged, shredding best” (according to the press release), is the second single lifted from their debut LP Innerspeaker, which the band recently spruiked during their inaugural tour of the US. All up, they played 14 dates, including supports for MGMT and some sold-out headline shows of their own in New York, Chicago and LA.
The tour kicks off on October 7 at HQ in Adelaide, taking in Hobart, Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, before winding up in Perth on October 22. A European tour and an encore lap of the US are mooted for later this year.
Tickets go on sale on July 22, with Innerspeaker bundled with each ticket sold.

would these copies count as ''sales'' for the charts?
If they're given the option of buying the bundle as an extra then yes. If every ticket includes the bundle then no.
wasn't this how prince got a number one album most unexpectedly a few years back?
man, you guys are cynical!
why say that jose?
i asked this as a honest question because i'm genuinely interested
if they do count as sales then good on 'em (or whoever came up with the idea)
better them in the charts than hillsong
are they a band or a dude?
yours truly confused.
But Scallywag you constantly ask questions about industry stuff because you perpetually assume that anything remotely organised and/or financed is innately corrupt and must be exposed by illumination. It gets a bit repetititive.
This is the answer.
Enmore? This is hopeful.
thanks for the illumiation, iamthewalrus.
Really? They sold out 2 Metros.
I'm more cynical about the possibility of promoters using the ''bundle'' thing to up the ticket price. That said, unless this is ridiculously expensive I am definitely going to see these guys again - they were really great live at the Forum.
I quite like the new single.
I think it says mroe about how records, in monetary terms, are a minor part of an up and coming band's career. They're assuming most fans downloaded it, so making it a value add might actually help sell tickets to their second tour within six months.
Concert tickets and commercial syncs are the big earners now.
Prince knows this.
My little sister said something about Tame Impala tour...... Enmore - a shoe in!
Such a good LP, such a nifty band.
They're keepers.
Where the fuck is The Astro? I'm a man about (Perth) town and I've never 'eard of it. Must be obscure if I've never 'eard of it.
Oh, er, ignore my forgettful nature vis a vis formatting. This would never have happened had I not decided to be a smartarse...
Aaaaand ignore my terrible spelling.
typo maybe? Astor?
That would make sense.
I think I prefer the astro though.
haha. i just listened to them and this band is so boring. maybe even worse than the middle east. i bet they love jesus too. yours, typical m+n wanker
weird that these guys are big enough for the enmore.
sorry that was mean mr tame impala. well done with all the success n that
Is that a new girl in the band on the left of the picture? I remember seeing them play as a 3 piece man band. They were great at what they did but what they did was not really there's... you know what I mean?
probably the fest day of my life. i am probably going to have better, but so far this was probably the best day of my life.
don't make fun of her- she's obvz a music critic
Jesus!
Sorry. I've hijacked this phenomenon. It deserves its own thread.
Yeah, it totally sucks when a young kid gets really into a band. I was completely composed and very sophisticated as a sixteen year old and I find this unabashed enthusiasm utterly repugnant. Gross!
Yeah, but did you broadcast yourself to the world, TR?
I was, er, equally as effusive within the constraints of the prevailing paradigm.
Photocopying 10 copies of your zine doesn't count.
Haha, no, I think that's the exact same thing! We didn't have the internet. Look at it not in reach, but effort, because it's just not comparable. Making a video blog is very little effort, making a zine/writing about a band was a pretty big deal. You're talking hours spent crapping on, and a lot of thought involved as opposed to a throwaway video post.
Good point. I recently picked up a print zine and reflected on how gloriously anachronistic the format is. Still, I'll probably pull out this tattered artifact in 20 years time, rather than trawl through the the threads on M+N or vids on youtube for my nostalgia fix.
Yeah, I'm letting down gen Y with a love of paper :) I'm exactly the same.
The kids are so out there.
They interviewed one of these guys on Pfork, but they must have picked the bogan by mistake because I don't think Pfork was impressed by his music taste.
Jus' sayin'.
i just think its funny how she thinks its the best day of her life, but she takes the time to realise that there will probably be a better day in the future, but at time of filing this was her best day so far.
Looking forward to this tonight! Sitting in the towny waiting. If anyone else is reading this in the towny, I'm outside up top, but you really shouldn't be cheating at trivia... :)
how was the Sydney show last night?
Looking forward to tonight

They were really good!
They played the Enmore up here, which is a pretty huge venue, and it was a bit odd to see them in such a large place - I get a lot from actually watching them on stage (well, Jay, to see how he's playing what he's playing), and I missed that element. Also odd was being seated! We were up in the nosebleeds, which exacerbated the idea that they were playing stadium-style. I tapped my foot along politely! It was really fun though - they sounded great. It's really cool they're going so well.
i saw them a few nights back in a club in adelaide. really loved it. seeing them sitting down would've been...strange.
they've got a seriously groovy thing going on (even if it is lovingly pilfered from a few canon bands).
It was! To still find them a compelling live band after seeing 20 odd shows of theirs in a year, and me being a jaded old bastard, really says something (I'm not a weirdo, my band toured with them. There really are few bands I'd happily watch every night). I really like the jam element live. There were some Faust-like moments last night.
The irony of branding a successful Australian band 'Faustian' is not lost... haha. Couldn't be further from the truth, though.
Their recent Daytrotter session is pretty cool. Slowed down, spaced out. http://www.daytrotter.com/dt/tame-impala-concert/20031323-37382372.html
i wish daytrotter did podcasts - i always forget about how great it is.
